Bern, 29.09.2025 — On Thursday, 2 October, President Karin Keller-Sutter will attend the seventh summit of the European Political Community (EPC), which will be held in Copenhagen. From there, Ms Keller-Sutter will travel to Rome, where she will meet Pope Leo XIV and Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin at the Vatican on Friday, 3 October. She will also attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new recruits to the Pontifical Swiss Guard.

At the EPC summit in Copenhagen, President Keller-Sutter will take part in an exchange on critical areas of economic security, where Europe's dependencies in supply chains for raw materials and technologies will be discussed. Ms Keller-Sutter will also use the summit in Copenhagen as an opportunity to hold a number of bilateral talks. A meeting with the president of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, is planned ahead of Cyprus assuming the Council of the EU presidency in the first half of next year.

Swearing-in ceremony for the new recruits to the Swiss Guard

During the talks with Pope Leo XIV and Cardinal Secretary of State Parolin at the Vatican, cooperation between Switzerland and the Holy See on peacebuilding and human rights issues will be on the agenda alongside the Pontifical Swiss Guard. The swearing-in ceremony for the new recruits to the Swiss Guard will take place on Saturday, 4 October. The usual date for the swearing-in ceremony is 6 May in memory of the Swiss Guards who lost their lives during the Sack of Rome in 1527. This year's ceremony was postponed until the autumn due to the death of Pope Francis at the end of April.

On Monday, 6 October, meetings are scheduled to take place with Economy and Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and Banca d'Italia Governor Fabio Panetta. The talks will focus on bilateral and cross-border issues, European policy with regard to the continent's competitiveness, international financial policy and transatlantic relations.
